The Fermor XI Cricket Team has always held a fascination
for me, although I only ever remember being present at one game in 1946 at Ulcombe when my father, Leonard Fermor, was in
the team.
From a family historian's point
of view, photographs of the Fermor XI teams of 1908, 1946, 1962 and 1964 literally provide snapshots in time, which show us
not only the players themselves, but suggest that further research would give an insight into a family's social history
spanning more than fifty years.
During those
years there were many changes, at local, national and global level which affected the lives of the Fermor XI in the small
farming community of Ulcombe in the Weald of Kent.
Once
again, we are indebted to Uncle Laurence, the late Laurence Beversham Fermor, who spent a life-time researching our family
history. * * * * *
I have written two booklets about the Fermor XI:
Over Half a Century of Fermor Family Cricket:
Part 1 - 1908
Over
Half a Century of Fermor Family Cricket: Part 2 - 1946
Each contains 17 photographs and 'sets out to record a little of
our Fermor family history for posterity which might otherwise be lost'.
Have
you found the Fermor XI on YouTube?
